Cows at electric lines

The size energizer needed to power an electric fence is dependent on several factors such as; the number of acres, the length of the fence, number of electrified wires, type of livestock, and severity of conditions.

As a general rule of thumb one output joule is needed for every 3 miles of wire. This rating is different from the manufacturer’s rating. Manufacturer’s ratings are often based on ideal conditions. The 3:1 rule is based upon observations collected from demonstration farms.
