Did you know?

Without the use of growth promoting technologies, Dr. Jude Capper estimated that the number of cattle required to produce the same amount of beef in the US beef supply would require 15 million more cattle, placing greater demand on land use, water use, and fossil fuels.  The technologies used in Dr. Capper’s study focused on two growth enhancing technologies, beta agonists and steroidal implants.  Beta agonist use is restricted to the final days in a feedlot, whereas, some growth implants are approved for early use in a calf’s life.

For more information on beta agonists and steroidal implants, visit your local veterinarian or county Extension agent.
